2020 United Airlines NYC Half Marathon
The Legal Aid Society is excited to participate as an Official Charity Partner in the 2020 United Airlines NYC Half on March 15, 2020. Our runners will tackle a unique 13.1-mile course that runs from Prospect Park in Brooklyn, through Times Square and into the finish in Central Park – all in the name of equal access to justice. When you run for Team LAS, you join a long list of New Yorkers united by a shared belief in that no one should be denied access to justice because of poverty. When you support our team, you help continue the legacy of Team LAS, changing lives one mile at a time.
This year’s team once again features some of The Legal Aid Society’s staff and attorneys as well as individuals from our partner law firms:
Julia Boms – Legal Aid Society, Criminal Defense Practice
Heather Ford – Cooley LLP
Kyle Hardgrave – MobilizeAmerica
Rebecca Novick – Legal Aid Society, Health Law Unit
Rebeka Zoe Penberg – Legal Aid Society, Criminal Defense Practice
Katherine Stanton – Legal Aid Society, Employment Law Unit
Erika Szymanski – Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP

The Legal Aid Society’s Civil Practice operates across a network of neighborhood and courthouse-based offices and 21 citywide units and programs that provide comprehensive legal assistance to clients with problems involving housing, homelessness, and foreclosure prevention; family law and domestic violence; employment law; public assistance benefits; disability-related assistance; health law; HIV/AIDS and chronic diseases; elder law; tax; consumer law; education law; immigration; community development legal assistance; and reentry and reintegration matters for formerly incarcerated clients. We are a community leader for vulnerable individuals and collaborate closely with community and social services partners, law schools, pro bono partners, and the legal services sector.
During the past fiscal year, the Civil Practice provided individual direct civil legal assistance in over 52,000 individual cases and legal matters, which benefited nearly 135,000 low-income children and adults.
