Hasan Shafiqullah, Attorney-In-Charge of the Immigration Law Unit at The Legal Aid Society, issued the following statement responding to a preliminary injunction issued Wednesday evening by a federal court blocking the Trump administration from ending Temporary Protected Status (TPS):

“The decision to temporarily enjoin the termination of TPS for over 300,000 immigrants from Haiti, El Salvador, Honduras, and Sudan upholds Congress’ intent in creating the TPS program: providing basic humanitarian protections to individuals in dire need due to conditions in their home countries. We are grateful to the federal judiciary for once again helping to rein in some of the worst excesses of the Trump Administration.”
