The Legal Aid Society Welcomes 197 Summer Law Interns and Intern Investigators

The Legal Aid Society welcomed 197 summer law interns and intern investigators from across the nation  today during an orientation at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP.

Richard J. Davis, Chairman of the Board, welcomed the interns and discussed the Board and governance.  Seymour W. James, Jr., the Attorney-in-Chief, provided an overview of the Society.

The Practice Heads: Tina Luongo, Chief Defender in the Criminal Defense Practice; Adriene Holder, Attorney-in-Charge of the Civil Practice; and Dawne Mitchell, Attorney-in-Charge of the Juvenile Rights Practice, presented inspiring and encouraging remarks.  Three Staff Attorneys represented caucuses of ALAA.  They are Jared Trujillo, Staten Island CDP, representing the LGBTQ Caucus; Shoman Ward, Brooklyn JRP, representing ACLA Caucus; and Kwesi Dash, Brooklyn CDP, representing BALA Caucus.  Bharati Narumanchi, Director of Recruitment, arranged the event.  Also speaking were Femi Disu-Oakley, Director of Diversity and Inclusion; Scott Rosenberg, General Counsel; and Louis Sartori, Director of the Pro Bono Practice. 

A highlight of the event came when Allan Fox, Chief Human Resources Officer, asked everyone to don a Legal Aid cap and take a group selfie.
