BRIC TV: NYPD's Gang Database

The NYPD maintains a secret database with names of people they believe to be ‘gang' affiliated, the numbers of which have jumped by 70% under Mayor Bill de Blasio, even though crime has fallen to historic lows. As of Feb 8, 2018, there are 42,334 names in the database, and 99% of those are people of color.

Called “Stop and Frisk 2.0” by critics, having your name in the database can lead to further surveillance, harassment, enhanced bail recommendations, and heightened charges among other far-reaching consequences.
