Statement Responding to Senate Majority Leader Stewart-Cousins’ Pledge to Pass All Nine Priority Housing Bills

Judith Goldiner, Attorney-in-Charge of the Civil Law Reform Unit at The Legal Aid Society, released the following statement today responding to New York State Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins’ pledge to pass all nine priority housing bills:

“We welcome Majority Leader Stewart-Cousins’ support for this package of legislation that will finally guarantee crucial protections for low-income tenants across New York State. However, Albany must pass all nine priority housing bills as is. It is imperative that lawmakers not concede to any of the watered-down proposals from the real estate lobby, which would ultimately erode what these bills were originally intended to provide and what New Yorkers so desperately need.”
