LAS Calls on Gov. Cuomo, DOCCS to Release Four Incarcerated People at High Risk of COVID-19

The Legal Aid Society, in a recently issued demand letter, called on New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) to immediately release four incarcerated people due to their unique vulnerability to COVID-19 infection, reports THE CITY.

These clients each have serious health issues. One recently underwent triple-bypass heart surgery and another suffers from skin cancer.

“We think their stories encapsulate just how serious this problem is,” said Stefen Short, a Staff Attorney with the Prisoners’ Rights Project at The Legal Aid Society.

The letter further calls to review the cases of thousands of other incarcerated people being considered for immediate release.
