Listen: LAS Alleges ICE Hunger Strikers Being Punished for Protest

New York Immigrant Family Unity Project attorneys at the Legal Aid Society representing immigrants being held by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have alleged that the detainees – currently protesting their condition by carrying out a hunger strike – are being punished for refusing to food.

Some detainees have been moved to other facilities and put in solitary confinement, while others have reported being held in cells without water or working toilets.

“That, I think, is potentially another tactic to try to break somebody participating in a hunger strike,” said Johanna Zacarias of The Legal Aid Society.
