NYPD Officer Daniel Pantaleo Fired Over 2014 Chokehold Death of Eric Garner

Daniel Pantaleo, the New York City Police Department Officer who used an illegal chokehold on Eric Garner in 2014 which resulted in his untimely death, has been fired, according to TIME Magazine. Pantaleo was also completely stripped of his pension benefits. The Legal Aid Society has repeatedly called on the NYPD to immediately fire the other officers involved in that fatal arrest five years ago as well.

“NYPD Officer Daniel Pantaleo should have been fired in 2014 and immediately stripped of his pension. Despite Mayor Bill de Blasio’s many attempts to point fingers elsewhere and spread the blame for years of inaction, New Yorkers now know that City Hall had the authority and jurisdiction to act decisively on this matter early on yet still did not,” said Tina Luongo, Attorney-In-Charge of the Criminal Defense Practice.
